Serve God Right Now

Procrastination is a sin. It is wasting a very precious commodity. When we waste money we can get more but when we waste time, it is gone forever. Procrastination is the sin for which I need forgiveness more often than any other. My spiritual laziness comes in a close second.

2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

Hebrews 3:12: Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. 13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

1 Thessalonians 5:16: Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing.

Acts 17:11: These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Psalms 1:1: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

James 4:14: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Resting is God*s will. Meditating on His Word is serving Him. Thinking about Him is serving Him. Praying is serving Him. Studying the Bible is serving Him. Preparing to serve Him is serving Him. Planning to serve Him is serving Him. Waiting upon the Lord is serving Him. Serving others is serving Him. Asking Him what to do is serving Him. (If you obey it.) Seeking His will is serving Him.

I believe that many believers make a mistake that I have made. They believe they should wait until they are perfect to serve Him. The problem is that our flesh will never be perfect until Christ returns.

Romans 7:18: For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

1 Corinthians 9:27: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Paul did not use his flesh as an excuse not to serve the Lord and neither should we. Jesus is perfect and if we have the perfect Jesus living in our hearts we CAN serve God. The Holy Spirit is perfect. When we are indwelt and filled with the Spirit we CAN serve God. We ought to pray every day the prayer that David prayed and perhaps many times every day.

Psalms 139:23: Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

A simple prayer that often gets results for me is this: Lord, what do you want me to do next?
